Michael Tavioni (Rarotonga) is a ‘Master Carver’ and a builder of traditional, ocean going vaka (waka). His extensive traditional knowledge encompasses all areas of Cook Islands life, and he holds a great deal of traditional knowledge on the islands. In this interview he talks about Taputapuatea, Rai’atea, the use of the same names across the Pacific and the how the meaning of names can change over time.
